THE “E. PROVOST” TOUR DU LOIR ET CHER 1960–2009

50 years of a sporting organisation, which quickly reached a high international level, lifts the spirits.

Moreover, since it is local and has continued without interruption for all these years, it reflects the determination of its founders to keep it going. They are not all present physically, because life has its bad surprises; but we follow their example. 50 years of shared passion for a sporting event has taught a great deal to its organisers. Thus we are proud of our child.

50 years of fidelity to the département of the Loir et Cher has allowed us to contribute to its discovery through sportsmen who took part in our event, and to promote the tourism of our area in most countries.

Classified among the leading events of its international category – category Europ Tour – for many years, the “E. Provost” Tour du Loir et Cher has also been claimed to be one of the most important sporting events of the region, offering for 50 years a lively and entirely free performance on the roads of the département of the Loir et Cher.

Who among us did not beg for one of the gadgets on offer as the parade of floats went by? That remains a childhood memory. It is still the same for the great event of the Tour de France. (No need for overpriced virtual games or electronic consoles, because pleasure must be and remain simple.) Many come to see us at departure or arrival points with faded photographs or anecdotes of a time that those under 20 years old cannot know.

Thanks to the support of and partnership with the officials of the General Council of Loir et Cher, of the District Council, of the town of Blois, of the departure and arrival towns and of the administrations of these institutions, we are able to offer this beautiful event to our fellow-citizens. Thank you to all our financial partners and advertising sponsors who, in a difficult economical climate, continue to support us.

It has taken a long time and many, meetings to bring this event into existence, but we are attached to our département and the task for which we are engaged. This event belongs to the thousands of spectators who visit us each year.

We like our cycling and we fight effectively for a clean sport without cheaters. As a serious organisation, we owe respect to our partners and to the young people who observe us, and we are committed to them; so, try cycling yourself and/or register your children in one of the cycling clubs of the département (see links).

Thank you to all the volunteers who assist us, because without them there would be no Tour du Loir et Cher. Thanks also to the signalling people in the towns we pass through, the state services that are put at our disposal, the Gendarmerie and Police and all those involved in this great event.
